Symptoms of Dengue

Dengue is ideally a tropical disease that gets transmitted by a variety of mosquitoes. This happens after a mosquito bites a person affected from dengue and then goes on to bite a healthy person, thus transmitting the disease in a healthy person. The dengue fever is also termed as the break bone fever. The more severe form of dengue is known as dengue hemorrhagic fever or DHF. Most times dengue is a disease that is asymptomatic and the most common sickness is just a fever and pain in the legs, joints and the lumbar region. It is generally found that children and those people with their first dengue infection have milder infection that adults and people suffering more than once.
There still can be a few that we can list, however you must visit a doctor to be sure of the cause for these symptoms:
Fever – The most evident symptom of dengue is fever. Fever is usually accompanied by at least two of other symptoms. The other two can be from this lot – severe headache, severe eye pain, joint pain, rash, mild bleeding of nose or gum and low white cell count. Then there can also be other factors like signs of circulatory failure, restlessness and leakage of plasma from vascular compartment. All of this follows a bout of fever. Fever during this time is a sudden outburst that can go up to 359.5 to 41.4 degree Celsius and can last from one to seven days. These symptoms when not treated can lead to as mentioned in the beginning the more vile DHF or Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever. The DHF if not treated properly can lead to Dengue Shock Syndrome.

Dengue Shock Syndrome – There can be something like this when symptoms like severe abdominal pain, vomiting, change in temperature and mental irritability. It is very important that a patient suffering from dengue when experiencing such syndromes must get treated at the earliest because this may lead to serious illness and shock which will eventually lead to death.
Other Symptoms – Other symptoms can include nausea and vomiting with a loss of appetite and change in taste sensation. Again, here the symptoms will be milder in children and more profound on elders. This phase of illness can last for one week and then followed by a one to two week period of recovery.
Dengue does not have any specific treatment for itself. People suffering from dengue should take pain relievers with acetaminophen. On the other hand they should avoid the ones that contain ibuprofen, Naproxen, aspirin or aspirin containing drugs. Always do consult a doctor.
