Motorists in Dubai can now have their number plates decorated with images of Burj Khalifa and other Dubai landmarks, provided they pay for it, local daily Gulf News reported on Thursday.
Based on Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) new initiative, customers can hold a personalised number plate for five years, after which they will have to pay again to renew the contract.
Popular Dubai landmarks expected to be included are the Burj Al Arab and Emirates Towers — although the list has yet to be finalised, the report said.
“It is intended to offer an opportunity for vehicle owners to pronounce their interests, inclinations and aspirations through picturesque images of Dubai icons, which will also enhance the concept of number plates,” the daily quoted Ahmad Hashem Behroozian, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, as saying.
Motorists can apply for personalised number plates through RTA’s online application system and once registered, they will be delivered in 1-2 weeks.
“We are concentrating on making many services online only and this will be one of them. As the plates will be printed abroad in the initial phase, it will take around two weeks for us to deliver them,” Behroozian said.
Customers having multiple vehicles will have an option of buying a personalised number plate and availing the facility on other vehicles for just a nominal fee, Behroozian added.
