10 Manly Drinks

10 Manly Drinks

Does your mind sometimes go blank when you belly up to the bar and you’re not in the mood for your usual? Let’s be real, it can be embarrassing guessing and getting served some neon-pink drink. You want a sure thing but you also need something a bit more, well, manly. A drink that won’t make your buddies raise their eyebrows when you order. And while there are hundreds of ‘manly’ drinks out there, here are ten macho mixed drinks that are sure to impress your friends and, hopefully, the cute bartender. Bottoms up.
Kamikaze
The name alone sounds like a macho drink. Made with five different types of liquor, throwing back a few of these , while remaining on your feet, is a truly herculean task.
1 ¼ oz vodka 1 ¼ oz lime juice
1 ¼ oz triple sec
• Shake all ingredients together, pour it into a shot glass and serve.
Captain and Coke
The always popular Captain and Coke is a classic combo. While any brand of rum and cola will suffice, the original pairing of Captain Morgan and Coca-Cola will always taste the sweetest.
1 ½ oz Captain Morgan® Original Spiced Rum
4 oz Coca- Cola®
Jag Bombs
Made famous by college frat boys, nothing gets the party started like Jag Bombs. The highly caffeinated Red Bull® helps counteract depressant effects of the alcohol. Proceed with caution, but party all night.
½ can Red Bull
1 to 2 oz of Jagermeister® herbal liqueur
• Pour the energy drink into a glass, to desired level. Fill shot glass with Jagermeister®. Drop shot glass into Red Bull and drink immediately.
Martini
James Bond’s drink of choice, enough said.
1 ½ oz gin 1 dash orange bitters
½ oz dry vermouth Olives to garnish
• Note: James Bond actually drinks a vodka martini, so to truly replicate the great 007 substitute the gin for vodka. Stir ingredients with ice and then strain into a martini glass. (It is suggested you make this drink with quality liquor, which is normally smoother, since there are few flavor add-ins to dilute the strong alcohol taste.)
Gin and Tonic
Of all gin cocktails, this one is the most iconic. There’s nothing fancy about a Gin and Tonic, just honest to goodness flavor, if you use good gin, with hint of old world charm.
2 oz. gin 1 lime wedge
5 oz. tonic water
• The secret to this drink is quality gin; it will set you back a pretty penny, but will make one smooth drink. Served on the rocks.Irish Car Bombs
Beer and liquor is a volatile combination, but this drink takes it to the next level. Combining a stout with two types of liquor is nothing to laugh at and you’ll need to chug it since the Bailey’s causes the mixture to curdle rather quickly. Clearly this drink is not for beginners.
½ pint Guinness® ½ oz Jameson® whiskey
½ oz Bailey’s® Irish Cream
• Fill shot glass with the mixture of whiskey and Irish cream. Drop shot glass into Guinness. (You can use any mixture of whiskey, Irish Cream, and Stout to make the drink. The ones listed above are the most often used, because they are all, obviously, Irish.)
Scotch and Soda
It’s got Scotch, it’s simple, and it’s effortlessly cool- what’s not to love.
1 oz. club soda
1 ½ oz scotch
• Serve over ice. (On the rocks.)
Manhattan
Long the drink of its namesake’s elite society, nothing says class like a Manhattan. A true Manhattan should be made with a rye whiskey, but bourbon is often substituted.
1 ½ oz rye whiskey 1 dash angostura bitters
½ oz sweet vermouth
Old Fashion
An oldie, but a goodie- this drink has been around since the late 1800’s and remains a favorite today. If you want your drink truly old fashioned, make sure it is made with water and not club soda- a popular new substitute for this drink. The whiskey in this drink can be substituted with brandy should whiskey not be your thing, to create a Brandy Old Fashion.
2 oz rye whiskey 1 tsp water
1 sugar cube 2 dashes Angostura bitters
• Dissolve sugar in water and Angostura bitters. Then ad ice to glass and top off with whiskey.
Black and Tan
Men are to beer like bees are to honey; they simply can’t stay away from the sweet nectar for too long. So, order a classic Black and Tan, it won’t take you too far out of your comfort zone and there’s probably no manlier 'mixed' drink out there. Cheers.
½ pint Pale Ale
½ pint Stout or Porter
• Make an Irish Black and Tan with a combination of Guinness and Smithwick’s or showcase local beers to your buddies by creating a Black and Tan with area microbrews.
