The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced FAJ, 24-year-old Emirati student, to 25 years in jail after being found guilty of kidnapping, confining and raping AAS, his girlfriend.
Yousuf Mohammed Fulath, Chief Prosecutor, had asked the court to give a stiff penalty for the accused.
AAS, 28, testified that the accused knew her mobile number and started calling her after her brother used his mobile phone to call her after a fight he had with some people.
“Some youths attacked my brother with swords. They went to the police station to notify the police. As the family was scared of the attackers, we all left the house.
“My brother used the mobile phone of his friend FAJ, who had dropped him home from the police station, to know our whereabouts us. FAJ started calling me and talking to me since he had my number on his mobile.
“He made a marriage proposal to me through SMS but I replied I don’t know enough about him to make a decision. He expressed his love for me and said he wanted to travel to get medical treatment for his leg.
“He told me that he wanted to show me the house of his aunt that will be our future house. He insisted that I should see the house before he travelled abroad. I arrived at the location he had mentioned. I saw him waiting outside the house.
“He then insisted that I come out of my car and see the house. I opened my car door and got down. He pulled me by my hand into the house. Half way up the courtyard, I tried to pull away my hand and step back. He then held me by my neck and dragged me into bed room on the upper floor of the house.
“He beat me up and forced me to undress. He took pictures of me naked. He then raped me, saying he will not keep me a virgin so that I will not marry another man while he is away.
“After he finished, he asked me not to tell anyone, especially my sister, who knew about our relationship. After reaching home, I called him but he did not answer my calls. So I told my sister who, with her husband, asked me to lodge a complaint with the police,” she testified.
The sister SAS, 23, broke down in tears in front of her husband MAF, 32, who is a police officer. MAF told his wife that the crime should be reported to the police and he took his sister-in-law for a forensic check.
The accused knew that police was looking for him so he approached the police station and claimed that he had consensual sex with the victim.
Forensic reported that the victim had lost her virginity recently after sexual intercourse. Also, there were bruises on her body and right knee.
The court rejected the accused’s claim of consensual sex and found the accused guilty of kidnapping, confinement and rape.
He was awarded the stiffest penalty of life in jail term – 25 years.
The verdict is subject to appeal within 15 days.
