Winter season is here and weather is getting cold, another reason for us to snuggle up in a blanket all day on the couch. Only in winter would we think it’s ok to eat all the food we want and not get fat! Well, we’re wrong. The high metabolic rate caused by the low temperatures of cold winter nights can only help you to a certain extent. Although you’re covered up and you really don’t need to show off your abs to anyone, take this winter as a great opportunity to get sexier, flatter abs by following these steps:
1. Cut off the fizzy drinks: no more diet coke, sprite, or any other fizzy drink. Learn to quench your thirst with a bottle of sparkling or even still water.
2. Smaller portions: always go for small portions. Even try eating a main course dish served in a dessert plate so you’d have a bit of everything but in far less quantities.
3. Don’t skip breakfast: skipping breakfast will only keep you starving all day with no actual benefit to your abs.
4. Five fruits: have five servings of fruit every day to boost your metabolism and keep you full for long.
5. Drink water: 8 glasses of water a day is essential in obtaining flat abs.
6. Exercise: routines like crunches on the ball, back paddling, and old school sit-ups/ sit-downs, will help tone your ab muscles and keep you heart-healthy.
7. Take a long walk home: walking can be just as effective as jogging when it comes to toning muscles and maintaining a certain weight. Walk thirty minutes every day at a fast pace to get your heart pumping and in shape.
8. Take the stairs: instead of your usual elevator ride, try taking the stairs for a change and turn that into a habit.
9. More snacks during the day: the more snacks you eat during the day, the lower the chances you would be eating junk food right after work. Suitable snacking options would be: vegetables, fruits, cereal, and nuts.
10. Sit up straight: according to studies, good posture will help you get the flat abs you need by stretching the muscles.
11. Keep a log: taking before and after pictures are always a great way to motivate yourself into working harder at the gym. Take a photo of your abs every two weeks instead of weighing yourself on a scale.
12. Get a gym-buddy: having a gym-buddy will encourage you to work out and add a little competition to your daily routine.
13. No dinner after eight: giving your body enough time to burn down the meals you’ve had throughout the day will keep you flat. Late night meals will only lead to belly fat.
14. Hire a trainer: look for a personal trainer at the gym to assist you with your exercise routine. There are several ways to do sit up and crunches, a personal trainer helps you find the most suitable one that works for you.
15. Be realistic: when setting your “ab goals” don’t shoot for the moon. Be realistic with what you want and what you can actually get. Hang a poster of your favorite celeb-ab on the fridge door to remind you of how you want to look like.
